If your family uses this entrance the most, it’s important to keep it tidy so everyone can find their stuff before school, work, dance lessons or hockey practice. At the same time, if this is the entrance that visitors and guests also use most often, you’ll also want it to be stylish and clean! After all, it’s the first impression they make from the inside of your home. That’s why mudroom crafts and racks are one of our favorite new DIY projects! Sure, you can buy some basic designs for your mudroom, but the beauty of how they help your home lies in how you customize them.
Functional Upgrades
When it comes to any home renovation project, functional upgrades are an absolute must. Whether you’re remodeling a single room or an entire home, the focus should be on making sure that the spaces you’re creating are both beautiful and practical.
For our recent DIY mudroom makeover, we decided to focus on functional upgrades that would make the room more practical and efficient. We started by adding a few organizational elements like shelves, hooks and baskets. We also added a bench with a storage area underneath to keep shoes, backpacks, and other items neatly stowed away. These organizational upgrades made it easy to keep the mudroom looking neat and tidy.
Next, we focused on upgrading the lighting in the mudroom. We switched out the single overhead light for a more modern and efficient LED system. This allowed us to add task lighting and accent lighting to the room. The task lighting makes it easier to see while you’re getting ready in the morning, while the accent lighting adds a nice decorative touch to the space.
Finally, we upgraded the flooring in the mudroom. We replaced the existing tile with a more durable, water-resistant vinyl that is much easier to keep clean and maintain. The new flooring not only looks great, but it’s also much more practical for a room that is prone to getting wet and dirty.

The Wallpaper
We wanted something that would be both visually stimulating and easy to clean. We decided to go with a bold patterned paper, in a bright blue hue. Not only did this wallpaper add a fun pop of color to the room, but it’s also easy to keep clean. Plus, the subtle texture of the wallpaper helps to absorb sound, making the room feel more insulated and cozy.
To make sure that the wallpaper was properly applied, we used a professional wallpaper hanger. We also made sure to use a high-quality paste to ensure that the wallpaper would stay in place. Once the wallpaper was up, we used a sealant to make sure it was properly protected from spills.

I chose to use a combination of 3-inch and 4-inch recessed lights, spaced evenly throughout the room. This ensures that the room is well-lit and every corner is illuminated.
For the pendant lights, I picked two vintage-inspired fixtures in a rich brass finish. They add a touch of warmth to the room and give it a more inviting atmosphere. The pendant lights hang from the ceiling and are suspended over the seating area, making it perfect for reading or relaxing.
Overall, I am so pleased with how the lighting turned out! It adds a nice touch to the room and provides the perfect amount of light. I am so glad I took the time to research and find the right lighting options for this space. It was definitely worth the effort!
The Bench Cushion and Pillows
